Simple Kitchen Cabinet Cleaning Trick Uses Baking Soda and Oil to Tackle Stubborn Grease
Kitchen cabinets can quickly develop a stubborn layer of grease, especially in homes where cooking happens every day. Even when countertops and appliances are cleaned regularly, cabinets often collect an invisible mixture of cooking oil, dust, steam, and airborne particles….
Over time, that buildup can turn into a sticky film that makes otherwise clean cabinets look dull and dirty.
Many people immediately reach for powerful degreasers and begin scrubbing, but there is another simple household method that may help with certain cabinet finishes. It uses two inexpensive ingredients you may already have at home: baking soda and a small amount of vegetable oil.
The reason cabinets become particularly greasy around the stove is fairly simple. Cooking releases tiny droplets of oil and grease into the air. Those particles eventually settle onto nearby surfaces.
Once grease reaches the cabinets, dust and other debris can stick to it, gradually creating the difficult-to-remove residue many homeowners recognize.
Aggressive scrubbing may remove the grime, but it can also damage some painted, laminated, or wooden finishes. Strong commercial products can present similar problems if they are not suitable for the cabinet material.
That is why gentler cleaning techniques are often worth considering.
One traditional household trick combines baking soda with vegetable oil.
Although adding oil to an already greasy cabinet might sound strange, oil can sometimes help loosen oily residue. Baking soda, meanwhile, provides mild abrasive action that helps lift sticky grime.
To try the method, place a small amount of baking soda into a bowl and mix it with approximately the same amount of vegetable oil.
A tablespoon of each is usually enough to begin with.
Stir the ingredients together until they form a thick paste.
