Does the Bible Forbid Cremation?
Despite the biblical examples of burial, there is no verse in Scripture that explicitly prohibits cremation.
The Bible contains references to bodies being burned in certain circumstances, but these passages are usually connected to judgment, war, disease, or unusual situations rather than instructions about funeral practices.
Since Scripture does not directly command believers to choose burial over cremation, many Christian scholars conclude that cremation is a matter of personal conscience rather than a question of sin.
The absence of a biblical prohibition is significant. Christians are generally careful not to label something sinful when God has not clearly forbidden it.
Can God Resurrect Someone Who Has Been Cremated?
One of the most common concerns among Christians is whether cremation affects the resurrection of the dead.
The answer, according to Christian theology, is no.
God's power is not limited by the condition of the human body. Throughout history, countless people have died in circumstances where their bodies were destroyed by fire, natural disasters, warfare, accidents, or decomposition. Yet Christian faith teaches that God knows every person completely and has the power to raise the dead regardless of what has happened to their earthly remains.
The resurrection is not dependent upon preserving every physical molecule of a body. Instead, it depends entirely on the power and promise of God.
If God created humanity from dust in the beginning, He is certainly capable of restoring and glorifying His people in the resurrection.
